THE POWER OF PURPLE
As highlighted on our Instagram feed last year, the Pantone colour of the Year for 2018 is Ultra Violet. Associated with power, royalty and wealth, this confident colour brings delight to the interior world with the vast variety of hues which can be cleverly adapted to any taste and any interior.
Purple is so often avoided when it comes to interiors for fear of over powering a room. Don’t be daunted; if used correctly this deep, rich colour can be a stunning addition to your living space, bringing an ambience of grandeur and exclusivity. Be brave and create a sumptuous feature wall as shown below with the Elgin & Hall Orieta gas fireplace, which pops beautifully against the amethyst back drop.
A Subtle Hint
If a purple feature wall is too daunting, you can opt to use it as an accent shade which is still guaranteed to create impact. The beauty of this versatile shade is that it will still stand out even when used sparingly. Whether you choose a deep, sumptuous aubergine or a soft lavender, any hint of the purple spectrum can create a soothing and tranquil finish. Incorporate these hues with cushions, curtains, vases and tea lights. Team deep plum shades with neutral earthy shades as shown below with the Elgin & Hall Adalyn marble surround.
As a softer alternative, mauve blends perfectly with grey shades to create a calming harmony, as shown with the Elgin & Hall Amorina surround below.
Whatever your choice, don’t be a shrinking violet and embrace the power of purple in 2018.
